“I immediately wanted to hug him and do SOMETHING. Anything. He was super positive, hopeful and just had the best attitude. I can’t imagine what him and his family have been through but I do know that I was supposed to be right there in that moment. I could feel it.”
Today is a big day! One of my favorites. After the craziness that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday we celebrate a little thing called Giving Tuesday. Where the purpose is to just simply GIVE. In whatever way we can. I really hope you’ll help me with this one.
Last week around Thanksgiving I went into a gym by my house to sign up AGAIN (mostly for the racquetball). It was pretty quiet on that day since everyone was off celebrating. I immediately got to talking to a few of the sales guys. Not just about gym memberships but about California, our life stories, how long we’d been in the area and then we started on our families and the holidays before I signed up for my membership. One guy started showing me pictures of his baby girl. She was born with a cardiac defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome and underwent two open heart surgeries before her heart started failing this January. They opted for a heart transplant. They were told that she might not get a match but after eight long months… she received her heart. Since then it’s been up and down and she ended up needing a tracheotomy but she’s doing much better now. This baby is a fighter. He showed me pictures and videos of her and she is just the happiest little girl.
They are hoping that she will be released from the hospital in order to back home for Christmas. I immediately wanted to hug him and do SOMETHING. Anything. He was super positive, hopeful and just had the best attitude. I can’t imagine what him and his family have been through but I do know that I was supposed to be there right in that moment. I could feel it. I would love to do something nice for him, his wife and daughter for Giving Tuesday. Wanna help me?
I plan on going to visit her in the hospital in the next 2 weeks to surprise her with the gifts we get her and some balloons. Of course I plan on documenting all of it:) Her dad said she really enjoys the Tinker Toys her physical and occupational therapists bring for her but he has yet to find some. She really likes building things, puzzles and coloring. She’s very intelligent for her age. She’s 2 now.
If you are interested in sending in some gifts please EMAIL ME for shipping address. I’m thinking restaurant gift cards and movie gift cards for date nights and a few toys for her. Here are a few things I put into an Amazon wish list for them: http://a.co/7nLvElQ
LOVE YOU GUYS!! Let’s also remember that this can happen every single day in small ways…not just on Giving Tuesday. Go out there and make someone smile.
